The Hearing Aid fitting process involves a minimum of four appointments. These appointments typically occur over a 6-8 week period. Here is what you can expect at each appointment:
The First Appointment
- Your hearing is fully assessed to determine your need for hearing aids or
any other assistive listening device.
- Your communication needs are discussed in detail.
- A solution is agreed upon between yourself and your Audiologist.
- Impressions are taken of one or both ears which are then sent away to be
made into your custom hearing aids.

The Second Appointment
- This appointment typically occurs two weeks after the first.
- At this appointment the hearing aids will be fitted and adjusted based on
your hearing profile & communication needs.
- It is recommended a family member or friend attend this appointment with you
so they can provide support & understanding over the coming weeks.
- The Audiologist will teach you how to use & insert the aids & most
importantly how to adjust to your new hearing in the first few weeks.
- Comprehensive written information will be provided to help you & your
family achieve maximum benefit from the aids.
- Once you are happy with the aids in the clinic we send you off to try them
out in your world.
The Third Appoinment
- This appointment typically occurs two weeks after the fitting appoinment.
- At this appointment the Audiologist will discuss the first two weeks of
listening with you and determine if any adjustments need to be made to the
hearing aids.
- In most instances some fine tuning will be required as your auditory system
adjusts to all the new sounds.
- Any adjustments are made through the computer programming interface and
any key concerns or issues you may have are addressed.
- It is useful to write down any concerns or questions you may have and bring
them to this appointment.
- Again it is beneficial to bring a family member or friend to this
appointment.
The Fourth Appointment
- If you are progressing well, this will be your final appointment as part of
the fitting process.
- The adjustments made at the last appointment will be assessed and if
required further adjustments can be made.
- Any questions or concerns will be addressed by the Audiologist and
additional written information provided if necessary.
- By now you will have re-entered the hearing world and enjoying listening to
the diversity of sounds we have in our world.
- Remember though that your auditory system will continue to adjust over the
coming months.
- Brindabella Hearing Centre will contact you in twelve months for a follow up
appointment.
